March 6 - Join us at the Jennings Environmental Education Center at 6:30pm for our March member meeting. Our program will feature Shaun Busler, a Geographic Information Systems professional, will review the changes that have occurred at Jennings Relict Prairie over the last 80 years. This ecosystem is a unique habitat within the deciduous forests of Pennsylvania. The prairie was discovered in 1905 by Dr. Otto Emery Jennings, a botanist from the Pittsburgh Carnegie Museum, and is valued for several unique species, including the Dense Blazing Star and Massasauga rattlesnake. Wil Taylor, Center Manager, will also be on hand to give us a tour of the newly remodeled building, point out the new exhibits and elaborate on future projects relating to the prairie. The Center will be open all day beginning at 7:30am; stopy by before the meeting to visit and hike, etc. Please do not bring food or drink to this meeting. Optional ramble - Meet at 5:00PM at the Jennings Environmental Education Center Office for a 1 hour ramble before the monthly BOC meeting. We’ll cross Big Run on the new 2 span, 60’ foot bridge, hike a bit of the NCT and return after checking out the prairie and its 12-acre expansion. The prairie expansion increases the habitat for a local population of Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (a Federally threatened species). Steve Smith
