BOC Trail Work – August 22nd to 24th (Allegheny National Forest – Tracy Ridge Area)

Several Butler Outdoor Club members are planning to do some trail work in the Tracy Ridge area of the Allegheny National Forest on August 22nd, 23rd and 24th.  The specific trail that they plan to work on is the Hopewell Loop.  The Hopewell Loop is 5.21 miles in length, and it has to be accessed from either the North Country Trail or by boat.  The organizers plan to get to the trail by boat and camp in a primitive campground on the Hopewell Loop.  Some other Butler Outdoor Club members are planning to stay at the Red Bridge Campground and hike in on the North Country Trail to the Hopewell Loop.  You are welcome to go along for one, two or three days.

If anyone is a certified sawyer and interested in helping out, let us know.  If you aren’t a certified sawyer and would still like to help out, there is plenty of work to do trimming branches with pruners, moving logs, etc.  Just let us know if you would like to help out by contacting Tom at creekfishing40@gmail.com

BOC Camping Trip – September 4th to 7th (Parker Dam State Park)

Linda X is planning a camping trip to Parker Dam State Park Sept. 4-7 (arriving on the 4th and leaving on the 7th).

From here we can hike the many trails in the park, part of the Quehanna trail, or trails in the Moshannon State Forest. Travel 35 min/21 miles to Ammerman Rail Trail, 30 min/20 miles to Clarion Little Toby Creek Rail Trail, or 39 min/ 22.5 miles to West Creek Rail Trail.

If someone wants to set up a paddle trip on the west branch of the Susquehanna which is close, we could do that also. This is a self supported trip.  Parker Dam has cabins and tent sites available.  If you are interested in a cabin, try to get a reservation soon.

If you can’t get a cabin at Parker Dam, Simon B. Elliott State Park is just eight miles down the road and also has cabins available.

Let Linda know if you plan to go along.  Her email is lsxeno@yahoo.com
